Actively respond to domestic and international renewable energy policies

Cathay Life proactively supports the RE100 global initiative, and plans to use 100% renewable electricity at our headquarters by 2025, all operating locations in Taiwan by 2030, and all operating locations overseas by 2050. There are currently three ways to obtain renewable energy:
  • Installation of solar panels for self-consumption Promoting a solar green energy strategy, we have implemented self-use solar panel installations. As of the end of 2024, a total capacity of 2,054 kW has been installed across 10 buildings, representing an increase of 1,542 kW compared to the previous year. Among them, the Wuri Building in Taichung has become the first building in Taiwan to be certified as a “Net Zero Building.
  • Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) To achieve long-term renewable energy goals, Cathay Life Insurance has been signing Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPA) since 2022 to incorporate external renewable energy into its operations. To date, the cumulative annual procurement has exceeded 70 million kWh of green electricity, and efforts to expand the adoption of renewable energy continue.
  • Renewable Energy Certificate (T-REC) Procurement Cathay Life first participated in renewable energy certificate (REC) trading in 2017 and has continued to track and procure RECs annually. In 2024, the company acquired 104 RECs through external purchases and, as a secondary transferee under the Green Leasing 2.0 program, obtained a total of over 5,000 RECs (1 REC = 1,000 kWh of electricity).
